A suspect allegedly fired a CO2-style handgun at a victim near the "Forever" singer's residence in the Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles on Friday afternoon, a representative for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Entertainment Weekly.

Officers responded around 4:11 p.m. local time after receiving a call about "a shooting that had just occurred." The suspect was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, a distinction because the weapon in question was an air-powered gun rather than a traditional gun.

Representatives for Brown did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

The 35-year-old suspect, Markeith Cungious, was booked at the Valley Jail Section at the Van Nuys Station in Los Angeles around 8:30 p.m. local time on Friday, according to jail records. He was released on bond around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday.

Cungious did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Cungious' LinkedIn profile lists his occupation as a head of estate security for a private family, and indicates that he has worked various security jobs since at least 2013.

"At this time, it is unknown who the suspect was working for, and we are unable to confirm any employment or assignment details related to the individual," the LAPD spokesperson told EW.

TMZ reported that LAPD officers interviewed both the suspect and the victim upon arriving at the scene, noting that the male suspect claimed that an argument broke out after he asked the female victim to leave the area. The suspect alleged that the woman drove her car over his foot, prompting him to fire at the vehicle, and the woman later called 911, per the outlet.

Brown recently announced that he will soon embark on a co-headlining tour with Usher to promote his upcoming album, Brown, set for release on May 8.

The singer premiered the music video for his latest single, "Fallin'," on the same day as the shooting incident. Set in a dimly lit 1950s juke joint, it immediately drew comparisons to Ryan Coogler's Sinners.

Maybe the shooter doesn't like the idea of a Chris Brown/Usher joint tour either, like the "Karen's" Chris recently called out on social media.
