Andy Dick Says He's Not Going to Rehab Despite Overdose in Hollywood

Andy Dick had everyone worried after suffering a drug overdose on the streets of Hollywood this week ... but he’s making it pretty clear he’s not planning to seek out any professional help.

While speaking to TMZ on Wednesday, Dec. 10, Dick, 59, said, "I'm not going to be in rehab," after being asked whether he would be willing to seek "professional help."

Earlier in the clip, Dick also made jokes about calling Dr. Drew and questioned the TMZ reporter about whether they should seek help too.

"Do you think that you're in a good place right now?" the photographer asked, as Dick replied, "Love it, I'm surrounded by my two friends ... it'll be hard for me to escape from them, but I will escape."

One of his friends acknowledged that the comedian sometimes "goes through hard times," and urged those around him to check up on him.

The actor's reps did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Dick's refusal to go to rehab comes after he was seen slumped over a set of stairs outside a building as friends attempted to help him, according to photos obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The comedian then reportedly spoke to TMZ and told the outlet he was alive and okay, though he did not elaborate on the incident.

As previously reported by PEOPLE, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed Dick was "taken home by a friend" after the incident.

A Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesperson also told PEOPLE, “I can confirm that we did respond to the intersection of Highland and Yucca at the 7-Eleven at 3:14 p.m. for a 59-year-old male," though they declined to confirm the patient's name, citing HIPAA laws.

"But we did respond to that location for an overdose. He was not transported to the hospital,” the LAFD said. 

“The LAPD did respond for an ambulance overdose," the LAPD added, while also declining to confirm the subject's name. They said, "This was a medical emergency issue.” 

Dick — who has three adult children, sons Lucas, 37, and Jacob, 31, and daughter Meg, 28 — has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction in the past.

In June 2021, he was also arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, a representative for the LAPD confirmed to PEOPLE at the time. He was later released on $50,000 bail.

"It was just the worst week with him," Dick’s former fiancée, Elisa Jordana, said during a live broadcast at the time on her Kermit and Friends YouTube show.

"It was getting worse and worse and worse, and just every day there was some kind of problem. And there were signs that this was gonna happen."

Jordana split from Dick one month after the incident and said at the time that she "felt relieved" the comedian was in jail because she believed some people in his circle were "more dangerous than people in jail."

Dick was also fired from a movie back in 2017 over sexual harassment claims. At the time, he addressed the allegations to The Hollywood Reporter, insisting, "I didn’t grope anybody. I might have kissed somebody on the cheek to say goodbye and then licked them. That’s my thing."

He denied that he intended to commit sexual harassment.
