Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has apologized for comments he made about songstress Kylie Minogue while playing a game during a recent podcast appearance.

During a conversation with Albanese on her Deep Bush show, Osborne asked the politician to name which Aussie celebrity he’d “shag, marry, date,” and tasked him with choosing between Minogue, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman, and musical theater star Rhonda Burchmore.

“I’ve just got married, I’m only six months in,” Albanese initially replied, clutching his hand over his chest as he spoke about his 2025 marriage to Jodie Haydon.

“If it goes tits-up, let’s just pretend,” Osborne said, pressing on as Albanese eventually answered: “Oh, Kylie, clearly.”

Osborne confirmed with him, “You’d marry Kylie, shag her, and date her?” to which he doubled down, telling her he’d do “all of the above” with the “Padam Padam” hitmaker because “she’s terrific.”

Following intense blowback over the appearance, Albanese issued a statement to CNN on Monday morning, in which he apologized for his remarks.

“I apologize unequivocally for the comments,” he told the outlet. Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Albanese and Minogue for comment.

Albanese’s statements elicited a strong response from Shadow Minister for Communications and Digital Safety Sarah Henderson, who wrote a lengthy statement about the incident on X.

Henderson called the comments “disrespectful to women” and “embarrassing to Australians” and said that they “demean the office” Albanese assumed in 2022.

“Comedian Nikki Osborne is very good at her craft and cleverly skewered the Prime Minister throughout her interview,” Henderson said. “Rather than politely decline to engage, Mr Albanese got into the gutter with his grubby remarks which show extremely poor judgement,” going on to call the statements “crude locker room talk.”

Elsewhere, Minogue has had a notable year amid the release of her Netflix docuseries Kylie, which saw her open up about her early career, overcoming dismissive criticism after her 1988 debut, and her relationship with late INXS singer Michael Hutchence.

The docuseries also ended with a shocking reveal that Minogue was diagnosed with cancer once again, years after she initially beat breast cancer following a 2005 diagnosis.
