The second-highest grossing movie ever, Marvel Studios/Disney’s Avengers: Endgame, is getting re-released on Sept. 25 next year ahead of the release of the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
The $2.799 billion grossing movie wrapped up phase three of the Marvel Universe and focused on Josh Brolin’s Thanos wrecking havoc across the universe and every major Marvel superhero pitching in to stop him. There were also some character storylines which ended in the Russo Brothers’ directed Avengers: Endgame.
In a multiverse twist, Robert Downey Jr., who has long been known to play Tony Stark/Iron Man in the movies, is playing Dr. Doom, the big baddie in Doomsday. In addition to the old guard of MCU superheroes starring in Doomsday, the movie will also include the casts of such new pics as Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and X-Men.

Avengers: Endgame is also the second-highest grossing MPA film of all-time internationally with $1.94B (behind only Avatar‘s $2.138 billion). Avatar remains the highest-grossing movie of all-time with $2.924 billion. Avengers: Endgame also owns the record for the biggest opening ever around the globe with $1.2 billion.
Some other tweaks to the Disney theatrical release calendar on a day when Netflix and Warner Bros Discovery are in exclusive talks to merge: Star Wars: A New Hope 50th Anniversary release previously on April 30, 2027 now moves to Feb. 19, 2027.
The untitled Simpsons animated movie shifts from July 23, 2027 to Sept. 3, 2027 — Labor Day weekend. Wow. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings owns the best Labor Day opening ever with $94.6M.
