After nearly a decade in reality television, Big Brother’s Josh Martinez says he’s done trying to define himself for the internet.

Josh Martinez has been a controversial figure ever since he first exploded on TV screens on season 19 of Big Brother in 2017.

Despite being known for banging pots and pans, calling fellow contestants “meatballs” and getting into heated arguments with a slew of his housemates, the then-23-year-old pulled off one of the greatest upsets by being crowned winner of the season in a tight 5-4 vote over fellow contentious player Paul Abrahamian.

While Martinez took home $500K, he didn’t necessarily endear himself to the cast or America as he was branded a “bully” for his intimidating antics.

Beyond Big Brother…

Since winning Big Brother, Martinez has built an extensive resume appearing on a slew of reality shows, where he has continued to rub his fellow contestants the wrong way.

In addition to upping his fitness game, he’s become a mainstay on MTV’s The Challenge franchise by competing on multiple seasons including: “War of the Worlds”, “War of the Worlds 2”, “Total Madness”, “Double Agents”, and “Battle of the Eras”, among others.

In 2023, the Miami native returned for Big Brother: Reindeer Games and came in 6th place. The following year, Martinez took part in Telemundo’s Los 50.

Most recently, he appeared on NBC’s competition series Destination X, where he was the first to be eliminated.

Throughout the last decade, Martinez has been polarizing to say the least and the online commentary from viewers has been critical of his behavior, as well as of his private life. While he’s never discussed his personal relationships, there have been rumors for years about how he identifies.

Now he’s ready to speak his truth.

Confronting the speculation

In a new interview, Martinez addressed his notorious reputation and finally confronted the ongoing speculation about his sexuality.

“There’s this constant pressure to define everything,” Martinez told Men’s Journal.

“I’ve never really felt the need to label myself or to say I’m this or I’m that. I’m just Josh.”

Feeling more confident in himself, Martinez is done letting other people’s thoughts or opinions take up his time.

“Every single aspect of my life has been attacked, has been judged…from the way I speak everything, the way I compete, the way I look, who I’m sleeping with, my sexuality, the way everything has been destroyed, to where it’s built me to like I just don’t care,” he added.

And while he’s not labeling his identity, the reality veteran is feeling more authentic than ever.

“People are just gonna have an opinion, and you gotta be okay, and you also can’t give a s**t. And there’s so much freedom in that,” Martinez shared.

“So like, if I want to go on a show and sleep with whoever I want to sleep with, or date whoever I want to date, I’m okay with it, but it’s taken nine long years to get to this point.”

Whatever your opinion is of Martinez, where glad he finally feels unburdened to love whoever he wants to love.

Loud & proud

Martinez recently took his loud and proud personality back in front of the cameras as a contestant on Telemundo’s La Casa de los Famosos, the Spanish-language version of Celebrity Big Brother.

Asked if he has a special strategy going into the new environment, the 32-year-old insisted he’s keeping it 100% authentic.

“People see through the fake s**t,” Martinez told the outlet. “I don’t have an image to clean. I’m just going to do my thing.”

And by the looks of some of the clips season 6 of La Casa de los Famosos first few episodes, Martinez, who has definitely upped his style game, is keeping true to his word.

La Casa de los Famosos airs Sunday through Friday at 7pm ET on Telemundo and is available to stream on Peacock.

So once again Queerty is clickbaiting by revealing absolutely nothing in the article. I've always suspected that Josh may have rainbow mafia tendencies, and with him saying "I'm just Josh" instead of answering the question, it basically tells me that he is part of the queer community, but isn't ready to label himself due to being a well-known hispanic reality star. And we know how hispanics feel about the queer community.
