Brand-New Queens of the Dead Trailer Sees LGBTQ+ Stars Fight Drag Zombies

ree

If you ever wanted to see Pose star Dominique Jackson pluck out someone's eye with a corkscrew-adorned boot, Queens of the Dead has you covered.

Horror may never have been as camp as it is in the new trailer for the upcoming zombie film Queens of the Dead.

Starring Margaret Cho, Dominique Jackson, Katy O’Brian, Tomás Matos, Jaquel Spivey, and also RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s Nina West the horror-comedy is directed by Tina Romero, the daughter of Dawn of the Dead director, George Romero.

Jack Haven, Cheyenne Jackson, as well as Riki Lindhome round out the cast.

The trailer sees party promoter Dre (O’Brian) trying to sort out “the wildest party” in Bushwick, New York City. The trouble is the DJ is MIA and the toilets are clogged. “We’re not ready,” is one worry to which Dre cooly replies, “We’re never ready. Open the doors.”

With the party underway a staggering figure appears that at first doesn’t pose a threat. “Drag is not life or death,” Nina West’s character assures just as the threat is revealed – drag zombies, the most glamorous undead.

Quickly things get out of hand and before long a full on outbreak is confirmed. “Manhattan is under siege,” a reporter announces as the club locks down. The characters “armour up,” which includes small tools and glue guns.

“You might want to look away, Margaret Cho warns before drilling into a zombie’s head. The drama amps up before the trailer ends with Pose‘s Jackson taking the eye out of a zombie using a corkscrew attached to her heels. “Survive survive,” she says merrily before carrying out the impressive move.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly Nina West said, “Being part of this movie has been incredible, celebrating how “Nearly every single person on set was queer.” She also said, the film “will take audiences on such a wild ride.”

Romero has previously told EW, “It’s time that we get to have a big gay zombie movie.”

The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York in June.

Queens of the Dead will be in cinemas from 24 October.
