The star-studded team, named Team Laverne, joined the game show on Thursday (31 July). Featuring queer royalty Laverne Cox, TS Madison, Mila Jam, Joslyn De Freece, and Peppermint, the group represented the first all-trans team to compete.
The group played to raise money for the TS Madison Starter House, a charity led by TS Madison that describes itself as an “innovative housing initiative designed to support and empower Black Trans women engaged in sex work”.
“The TS Madison Starter House is a re-entry house for system-impacted trans women,” Madison said in an Instagram video posted by Cox ahead of the show airing.
“Hallelujah honey! We’re gunna have some fun, we’re gunna make some money for charity, and we’re gunna look good doing it,” Cox replied.
TS Madison also caused quite a stir during her appearance on Celebrity Family Feud, making a tongue-in-cheek joke about her name.
When asked by host Steve Harvey if he could just call her “TS” or whether she preferred her whole name, Madison replied: “I take it short or long”, causing the audience to cheer and Harvey to look flabbergasted. She later added that she was “free-balling”, causing Cox to claim, “some of us are without… the ‘b’ word!”
After she posted the interaction on Instagram, commenters went wild, with drag artist Shea Couleé commenting: “I’m SCREAMING!!!!!! Steve didn’t know WHAT TF to do!”
Comedian Kid Fury added that Harvey looked like he “wanted to get hit by a meteorite”.
