China Box Office: ‘Resident Evil’ Stays at No. 1 as Market Hits Fall Lull

Resident Evil has joined three more Hollywood hits in this 2026 club at the box office in China. It has crossed a key milestone in China after having a strong opening weekend. The Zach Cregger reboot is also edging closer to the $400 million milestone at the worldwide box office. It is also among the top 10 all-time horror grossers at the worldwide box office.
The reboot has become the 4th Hollywood film of the year to cross $60 million at the box office in China, joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It is a strong achievement for the horror movie, as China is considered a major overseas market for box office collections. It is lucky enough, then, to might also cross the $100 million mark in China.
The movie has crossed the $150 million milestone at the North American box office and is expected to cross the $400 million mark worldwide. It is one of the top 3 highest-grossing horror movies of the year, only behind Obsession and Backrooms.
