Conan O’Brien to Host the 2027 Oscars, Marking Third Consecutive Year

If Conan O’Brien needs a friend, he’s certainly found one in the Academy. For the third year in a row, O’Brien has been tapped to host next year’s Oscars. Also back are live TV event producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan as the show’s executive producers for the fourth consecutive year.

It’s a threepeat! Conan O’Brien will return as host of the Oscars for a third consecutive year. Also back in their fourth straight year as executive producers are Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan. The 99th Academy Awards will air live on ABC and Hulu on March 14, 2027.

ABC was not believed to have an option on O’Brien for a third stint as Oscar host. (The comedian did have one in his original deal to emcee the 2024 awards, sources said.)

But, despite a ratings dip this year, O’Brien has been praised for his performance both times, so ABC brass were keen on getting him back.

“Conan has, obviously, a standing offer to host as long as he wants,” Rob Mills, EVP Unscripted & Alternative Entertainment at Walt Disney Television, told Deadline the morning after the 2026 Academy Awards. “100% we’d love him back.”

At the end of the 2026 Oscars, O’Brien “signed off” as host with a One Battle After Another-inspired sketch in which he was appointed “Oscars host for life” — only to be killed, with his body hauled away and incinerated and YouTuber MrBeast named his successor as Oscars host for life.

“Conan has created remarkable energy around The Oscars,” President of Disney Television Group Craig Erwich said. “His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year. We’re proud to welcome him back and look forward to what he and the producing team deliver next.”

Also returning next year are Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney as Oscars producers for a third time. Sweeney also will serve as a writer.

“We are thrilled to be working again with Conan, Raj, Katy, Jeff and Mike for the 99th Oscars,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor. “They are an incredible team and have produced such captivating, entertaining and heartfelt shows over the last two years. We are so grateful for their ongoing partnership as we honor our global film community — and we look forward to Conan superbly leading the celebration with his brilliance and humor.”

O’Brien is best known for hosting the late-night talk shows Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Conan. Currently, he hosts the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast and the HBO travel show Conan O’Brien Must Go. He has won six Primetime Emmys and earned 33 nominations, including a nomination for his work on the Oscars.

Kapoor has earned nine Emmy Award nominations and won Emmys for his work on the 96th Oscars and for executive producing the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) Adele: One Night Only. Mullan is a partner at the global live event production company Done + Dusted. She earned two Emmy nominations for her work on the Oscars and won for the 96th Oscars show.

Ross is a producer whose credits include Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Conan O’Brien Must Go, Conan Without Borders, Conan, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Sweeney’s credits include Conan O’Brien Must Go, Conan, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

The 99th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 14, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC, streamed live on Hulu and aired in more than 200 territories worldwide.
