Daddy Yankee is sending a musical postcard around the world, and he’s invited some remarkable artists to help deliver it. The Puerto Rican reggaeton superstar has released ‘La Postal’, a new 15-track concept album featuring collaborations with Cardi B, Diljit Dosanjh, Myke Towers, Danny Ocean, Bizarrap and De La Rose. Out now, the collection explores love in its many forms, from romance and family to self-respect and the music that has shaped Daddy Yankee’s life. And after 30 years of helping define reggaeton, he’s still discovering exciting ways to bring different musical cultures together.

“[La Postal is] a postcard written in 15 songs, where you’ll find love in all its forms: the real one, the fake one, the love that stays, the love that leaves, the love that’s celebrated, the love that hurts, and the love that holds us together,” he shared in an Instagram post about the album.

The reggaeton pioneer is known for helping the genre achieve mainstream success with his breakthrough single, 2004’s “Gasolina.” After nearly two decades on top, he announced that he was retiring in 2022 following the conclusion of La Última Vuelta World Tour. At the same time, Daddy Yankee revealed that he was dedicating his life to God. Those Christian values were reflected in last year’s Lamento En Baile. Now with La Postal, Daddy Yankee is making reggaeton that’s more secular but still catchy.

Daddy Yankee first teased La Postal earlier this month with the album’s lead single “BOTZ (Bésame Otra Vez).” He mixes reggaeton with elements of electronica and also revisits the aggressive style of rapping that marked his earlier hits. He also expands reggaeton’s global reach with Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh in “Pokito.” The most surprising moment on the album is Daddy Yankee joining forces with Cardi B for the sultry bachata “Cosita.”

On La Postal, Daddy Yankee also teams up with Myke Towers on “Se Va,” Danny Ocean on “Alfombra Voladora,” Bizarrap on “Pa’ Que Llorar,” and De La Rose on “Enawo.” The album arrives a few weeks before Daddy Yankee is set to be honored as Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy. The tribute gala will take place the night before the Latin Grammy Awards on Nov. 12 in Las Vegas.
