Did RuPaul’s Drag Race Just Confirm This Major New International Spinoff?

I know that we've had confirmation of Drag Race South Africa but now we've finally gotten confirmation that Drag Race Japan is in the works.

We’re over seventeen flagship seasons, ten All Stars spinoffs, four vs. The World iterations and (now) countless international versions of RuPaul’s Drag Race down – and it seems like we’re not slowing down any time soon.

Those responsible for the franchise are, of course, RuPaul herself, and Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey – the pair who created the show and co-founded franchise’s production company World of Wonder.

And it’s down to Barbato that fans think a major new international spinoff for the franchise has been ‘confirmed’.

Posting to his Instagram Story, which has since expired, Bailey posted a promotional graphic for the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise encouraging “Brand and sponsorship opportunities”, featuring Mama Ru herself, and two separate pictures of the judges’ panel, as below.

Below RuPaul are the logos for each of the global Drag Race spinoffs, including Germany, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Sverige (Sweden), Brasil, Italía (Italy), Down Under, Thailand, España (Spain), México, UK, France and Philippines.

But the two that have really got fans talking are Drag Race South Africa, which was confirmed in late 2024 – and the long-rumoured Drag Race Japan.

The image has found its way to Twitter, where Drag Race fans have had no shortage of reaction to the ‘news’.

“Not Fenton Bailey OFFICIALLY confirming Drag Race Japan,” one wrote, with another adding, “DRAG RACE JAPAN???”

That would mean that aside from the flagship franchise, All Stars, Global All Stars and vs. the World, there are now seventeen international spinoffs. Werk.

Drag Race France and Drag Race España have also received their own dedicated All Stars seasons, and Slaysian Royale is set to be a Philippines-based version of vs. the World.

There has not yet been an official announcement from either the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise itself or World of Wonder on Drag Race Japan – but an official logo seems like a pretty sickening start to us!

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 10 continues on Fridays on Paramount+ in the US and WOW Presents Plus internationally.
