With the 2028 presidential election inching closer every day, Don Lemon is the latest public figure to flirt with running for office.
The CNN alum recently teased “it could happen” as he feels confident he “could definitely run this country better” than Donald Trump, although Lemon is unsure about running as a Democrat.
“I’ve never said that I was going to grab anybody by the p*ssy. I’ve never said that a woman had blood coming out of her wherever. But also, I’m not a white man,” he explained on Pod Save America. “And the rules are different for me. Just like the rules, I believe sadly, are different for women. They’re different for Hillary Clinton, for Nikki Haley… they’re different for Kamala Harris. And white men get away with way more than women, or Black people or any minority.”
Lemon added, “Do I ever think about it? Yes. Could it happen? Yeah, it could happen if the right opportunity presented itself.”
“I think I could be president of the United States. I could definitely run this country better than Donald Trump. As an independent though, there would be a hard time for me to run for anything. Because the way the system is set up I’d have to choose a side. And so, I probably would have to become a Democrat. Am I at that point now? No,” noted Lemon. “I don’t have the aspiration to become president, but I do think I could run this country better than Donald Trump.”
Lemon’s latest interview comes after he pleaded not guilty following his January indictment for covering an anti-ICE protest at a Minneapolis church.
“The events before my arrest, and what’s happened since, show that people are finally realizing what this administration is all about,” Lemon told reporters after entering his plea. “The process is the punishment with them. … I will not be intimidated. I will not back down. I will fight these baseless charges, and I will not be silenced.”
Sparking free speech protests, Lemon and eight others were indicted on charges of conspiracy against right of religious freedom at place of worship and another count of working to injure, intimidate or interfere with the exercise the right of religious freedom at a place of worship.
