Alaska, who is starring as Mary Todd Lincoln in a new touring production of award-winning comedy ‘Oh Mary!’, sat down with The Guardian on October 27th to discuss the pipeline from drag to Broadway, crediting fellow Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon as an inspiration for “slamming open so many doors for so many people.”
But, despite this, Alaska acknowledged how difficult it still can be in Hollywood for drag queens, discussing whether she faces stereotypes in theatre due to her background.
She said: “It’s definitely better now. I mean, I’ve been doing drag for almost 20 years. On a Hollywood set, a dog would get better treatment than a drag queen. And that’s not even an exaggeration. That’s hard, and that sh*t still exists and still happens.”
