Duane 'Keffe D' Davis Found Guilty In The Murder of Tupac Shakur

A Las Vegas jury has found Duane "Keffe D" Davis guilty of murder in the first degree in the death of Tupac Shakur.

After a two-week-long trial, the jury deliberated for three hours before convicting the 63-year-old of murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He faces a possible sentence of life in prison.

For years, despite numerous leads, books, documentaries and more, no one had been arrested for the Las Vegas slaying of Shakur, who was shot Sept. 7, 1996 and died six days later. That is, until Davis began talking in online interviews and more, describing the killing as a move of retaliation after an altercation involving Shakur and Suge Knight, who beat his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, in the MGM Grand casino.

According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal, Davis acquired a gun and “went hunting” for the pair. He acknowledged that Davis’ accounts of what happened that night had evolved over the years, but argued that Davis altered his story to protect himself from future prosecution. However, one key detail of Davis’ story never changed: he was in a white Cadillac from where a gunman opened fire on a BMW carrying Knight and Shakur, striking Shakur four times.

“The core facts remain. The material facts remain,” Palal said.

Davis’ attorney argued during closing arguments that the prosecution had no surveillance footage, phone records or other physical evidence placing Davis at the scene of the crime.

However, the jury rejected several arguments from the defense, even hearing rebuttals from prosecutors that held up evidence that contained an alleged scrapbook belonging to Davis that contained various clippings of articles about Shakur’s murder and the feud between the South Side Compton Crips and Mob Piru, which contained members of both Death Row Records and Bad Boy Records on opposite sides.

In Nevada, someone who helps another person commit a murder can be convicted of said crime. Of the four men who were allegedly in the vehicle where the shots were fired that ultimately killed Shakur, Davis is the only one who is alive. The man who prosecutors say originally gave Davis the gun that was used to kill Shakur is also dead.
