Dylan O'Brien's Trans Brother Slams Actor For Not Speaking To Them in Over a Year

Dylan O’Brien has spoken about his deep appreciation for the LGBTQIA+ people in his life, especially his trans non-binary sibling. However the 33-year-old actor was recently called out by his trans sibling, Julz, after he opened up about their relationship last year at the Sundance Film Festival.

In a candid admission on Instagram that caught the attention of many, Julz, the trans brother of Hollywood's Teen Wolf sensation O'Brien, voiced his exhaustion with the false narratives suggesting close-knit support within the family. In an eye-opening response to a comment, Julz disclosed that, shockingly, communication between the siblings had been non-existent for some time, stating "over a year" had passed since their last exchange.

"Dylan also hasn't spoken to me in over a year. He didn't check in when I had top surgery. He didn't even wish me a happy bday last week!" Julz exposed on social media.

His comments didn't stop there; he wryly added: "But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more [smirk emoji]."

Julz's statement set off a firestorm of online backlash, with supporters expressing their indignation over Dylan's supposed misrepresentation of their bond. Venting on a Reddit thread, users openly criticized the apparent fabrication of solidarity.

"Truly diabolical to pretend to have a great relationship with your sibling, and paint yourself out to be an ally, when you don't even speak to that sibling," lamented a Redditor.

Another sharply criticized: "Yikes on bikes. He shouldn't try to score points as a supportive sibling when he hasn't spoken to said sibling in a year.."

An individual expressed frustration, stating: "...I hate how actors doing media buzz always fake a personal connection to something or someone also in that movie. It's a ridiculous expectation for romantic leads, for niche hobby movies, especially for queer films. You don't HAVE to be deeply involved with the movie's theme in your personal life, it doesn't make it better!"

Dylan's recent criticism stems from his January 2024 interview with Vulture, in which he expressed gratitude for having a "trans, nonbinary sibling" while promoting his queer thriller film Ponyboi.

"I have a trans, non-binary sibling and I know people in my personal life as well who are queer. I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world," he said.

The Gay Times recently shared Dylan's comments on their official Instagram page, prompting Julz to share his opinion, quoted above, in the comments section.
