Eureka O'Hara Will Lead DIVINE: BEYOND THE FLAMINGOS! Off-Broadway Solo Show

RuPaul's Drag Race and We're Here star Eureka O'Hara will take on trailblazing drag icon Divine in a new Off-Broadway solo play Divine: Beyond the Flamingos!, written and directed by Donnie (Make Me Gorgeous). The work will make its world premiere with a six-week engagement beginning December 3 at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater, with opening night set for December 8.

The 90-minute performance will see O'Hara transforming herself into Harris Glenn Milstead, aka Divine, the fierce, filthy, fabulous drag queen and ultimate muse of filmmaker John Waters. The play finds Milstead as he prepares to play the rare male role, a guest spot on Married... with Children. As he prepares to leave for the West Coast, he looks back on his early days in Baltimore and on to the heights he reached with iconic performances in cult classic films like Pink Flamingos and Hairspray.

“As Divine, Harris Glenn Milstead changed the course of drag history, challenging perceived limitations and opening doors for generations of artists, including me, to dream bigger,” says O’Hara in a statement. “Divine showed the world that drag artistry could be taken seriously beyond the clubs, on television, film and even the New York stage. Divine’s journey carries a deep, personal resonance for me. It is an honor to collaborate with Donnie in celebrating a legend whose legacy continues to inspire.”

Divine said, ‘I’m not here to be liked, I’m here to be legendary’ …and they are.”

The production will feature scenic design by Walt Spangler, costume design by Jeffrey Hinshaw, lighting design by Jamie Roderick, projection design by Brian Pacelli, and sound design by Ien Denio. Visceral Entertainment is general managing.
