Hermès Reportedly Refused to Sell North West a Rare Kelly Bag

According to a former employee of the Beverly Hills Hermès boutique, the luxury brand refused a request from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to purchase a rare alligator Mini Kelly bag for their daughter North West. The insider claimed that Hermès did not want the 12-year-old to be photographed with the exclusive handbag, which can fetch over $75,000 on the resale market.

“Kanye West and Kim Kardashian wanted a Black Mini Kelly bag for North or something like that. And Hermès said no,” the insider claimed.

“I have no idea why, but we were like, ‘Oh, wow.’ I think at that point it goes through corporate, because if someone who’s that high profile wants something, then obviously they’re going to be photographed in it — and they don’t want just anyone photographed in it,” they continued.

“So you’d call the press office and be like, ‘Hey, so and so wants a handbag.’ And they’d usually say, ‘Cool.’ But for some reason they didn’t want North West to have an alligator Mini Kelly.”

One of the rarer Hermès bags on the market, an alligator Mini Kelly can easily fetch over $75,000 at resale.

We’re guessing the now-12-year-old didn’t lose much sleep over the alleged snub, considering she’s got a wide array of other Hermès styles at her disposal.

Mom Kim owns an extensive collection of the French fashion house’s pricey purses, including multiple Mini Kellys, a Jean Paul Gaultier-designed Shoulder Birkin and a Himalaya Birkin — the latter of which can fetch up to half a million dollars on the resale market.

Meanwhile, North was spotted toting a white Birkin in 2019, when she was just 6 years old. And in 2014, the youngster famously finger-painted an Hermès Herbag as a gift for her famous mother.

Hermès’ press team did not immediately respond to Page Six Style’s request for comment on the claim.
