How Kylie Minogue is Morphing into Her Close Pal Madonna – and Reason US Star is Fond of Her Unlike Her Other pop rivals

Madonna is back on top of the U.K.’s Commercial Pop club chart — and this time she’s brought Kylie Minogue with her.

Pop icon Madonna has long championed Kylie Minogue — and the Aussie singer now appears to be returning the compliment by morphing into Madge.

They appeared together in matching skimpy purple outfits, both with their long blonde hair flowing, to promote their new single Love Sensation.

A source said: “Kylie and Madonna have known each other for two decades, but over the past few years they have grown closer.

“There is a lot of mutual admiration for both being strong women in the industry who have stood the test of time.

“They have always toyed with the idea of working together.”

Kylie, 58, and Madonna, 68, have provided the soundtrack to our lives for more than four decades with anthems of love, joy and heartbreak.

Between them, the duo have notched up a total of 102 top ten hits, including their joint single Love Sensation, which is a remix of a track from Madonna’s latest album Confessions II.

Music industry insiders have hailed the collaboration as a genius move, combining their loyal armies of fans to create a formidable force.

The pair had been dropping hints that they planned to team up before Kylie made a surprise appearance last month during Madonna’s Club Confessions concert at WorldPride Amsterdam, to debut their new duet.

The crowd went wild and the song later reached No 8 in the UK charts, as well as hitting top spot in the States.

Both stars have managed to maintain hugely successful careers since they debuted in the Eighties.

They shaped modern pop and dance music — Madonna with hits including Hung Up, while Kylie released anthems such as Spinning Around.

And they both constantly reinvented themselves, changing their image to stay ahead of the competition.

But rather than pitching themselves as bitter rivals, Kylie and Madonna openly support each other.

And their latest work on a joint track makes perfect sense, given the many similarities between them.

Showbiz PR and marketing expert Mark Borkowski says: “It’s genius because it brings together two powerhouses and creates a huge new audience.

“Their collective creative ideas have served them well for decades.

“Both Kylie and Madonna have always been brilliant at reinventing themselves, and this looks like a cynical commercial decision.

“It’s a publicity stunt to get the algorithms up. This is not a fully blown showmance, but it’s not far off.

“Two is always better than one, and these two are definitely stronger together.

“The music industry is the business of show — it’s all about making money and to do that now you need to get the clicks.

“In a world of AI where you’re lucky to get 15 seconds of fame, never mind 15 minutes, you have to keep being original to stay relevant.”

Madonna famously does not have much time for other major female stars following in her footsteps.

She branded Lady Gaga “amusing” and “reductive” in 2012 for supposedly copying her music, while in the early Nineties she described Whitney Houston as “horribly mediocre”.

And she haughtily dismissed Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey in 1996, claiming: “They can’t do what I do.”

Her sharp tongue was already apparent in 1989 when she was shown LaToya Jackson’s Playboy pictures during an interview.

“This is desperation,” she said. “Maybe she will get a job out of it.”

Madonna has also taken a swipe at Gen Z stars, including Charli XCX after she declared in a new song that the dancefloor was dead.

The Queen of Pop hit back: “If your dancefloor feels dead, maybe you are playing the wrong music.”

Her frosty attitude towards other stars also put her at odds with Cher, who once branded Madonna “mean”, adding: “There’s something about her I just don’t like.”

But Kylie is one of the select few stars who Madonna has openly championed, and they have been fans of each other for years.

At the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards in Stockholm, Her Madgesty strutted onto the stage in a black sleeveless T-shirt with the words “Kylie Minogue” written in gold letters across her chest.

She recalled: “I was in my Western mode, rhinestoning everything, and I was trying to think of singers that I’m slightly in love with.

“And so naturally I thought of Kylie and had a T-shirt made.”

Kylie later admitted she was stunned by the gesture of solidarity, saying: “There was no warning. I don’t know what I did — probably just stopped shy of fainting. It was amazing.”

In 2015, Madonna sang a blast of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head on stage in Brisbane.

The same year, she said on Australian TV: “Kylie! I love her. I’m a big fan of hers.”

The pair, who critics had often pitted against each other, finally performed together in 2024.

Madonna invited Kylie to duet as part of her Celebration tour in Los Angeles — and Kylie rocked up in a black top with Madonna’s name on it.

“I was actually a little bit jealous of you,” she later told Kylie on her Graham Norton special, which aired in June on BBC One ahead of the release of Confessions II.

And when Graham asked why she had hung on to a battered old Kylie album, Madonna confessed that her ex Guy Ritchie fancied her.

Madge explained: “She was so cute. I think my ex-husband at the time had a crush on her.

“And I was like, I’ll never be as beautiful as Kylie.”

Kylie revealed how much she idolised Madonna, and returned the favour by presenting her with a treasured vinyl copy of Madonna’s self-titled 1983 debut album.
