Interview With The Vampire Star Says Hollywood Would Never Cast A Queer James Bond

Ben Daniels has opened up on the struggle gay actors still face in Hollywood.

Interview with the Vampire and The Crown star Ben Daniels has said that studios would never cast a queer person to play James Bond.

Speaking to The Telegraph on 3 February, the gay actor was asked if he would like to play another “rampantly heterosexual character” like Finn in the BBC hairdressing comedy Cutting It again.

“Yes, of course, because it was such tremendous fun,” he said.

“But also those opportunities for gay actors aren’t really there as much as you say…

“A queer person will never be cast as James Bond, for instance.

“As a gay actor you’re not even seen for those roles. And quite often they still won’t employ queer actors in queer roles.”

His comments come off the back of Wicked heartthrob Jonathan Bailey, who is gay, being put in the running to play Bond by bookies. William Hill have him at 10/1 to play the next Bond, while Betfred reckon it’s more like 14/1.

Daniels most recently appeared in Interview with the Vampire season 2 as flamboyant vampire stage actor Santiago, and Middle-earthian elf Círdan the Shipwright in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
