Jaafar Jackson Says Aunt Janet Jackson ‘Has Ideas’ of Her Own Biopic After She Didn’t Participate in Michael

After sitting out the Michael Jackson biopic, the late musician’s sister Janet could be bringing her own story to the screen.

After she reportedly turned down being featured in her late brother Michael Jackson’s recent biopic, Janet is apparently working on her own movie.

Her nephew Jaafar Jackson, who depicted the “Thriller” artist in Michael earlier this year, explained that Janet’s decision appeared to be a practical choice.

“I don’t want to speak too early, but Janet has ideas of maybe doing her own film,” Jaafar told GQ Middle East. “So having someone portrayed in this and then choosing a different actor for her own is just…”

Although the “Control” singer hasn’t publicly commented on Michael, her sister La Toya Jackson previously revealed that Janet preferred to stay out of the film and its promotion.

“I wish everybody was in the movie,” La Toya told Variety on April 20. “She was asked and she kindly declined. So you have to respect her wishes.”

But there appears to be no bad blood, as Michael director Antoine Fuqua said that Janet sent Jaafar support behind-the-scenes.

“I have so much respect and love for Janet, but you know it’s okay,” Fuqua told Variety. “She’s supportive of Jaafar and that’s what matters.”

And the family’s approval was one of Jaafar’s top priorities when portraying his late uncle, who died in 2009. He said he set up screenings for his cousins and “the second generation” of the Jackson brood, although the actor did not sit in while they watched.

“It’s a lot to take in, especially portraying your family member and then having all your family there,” he told GQ Middle East.

Luckily, his family approved of his portrayal of the “Billie Jean” singer, even if the movie did make them “emotional.”

“After it ended, I just got so many hugs and a lot of support,” he continued. “It was a relief, because there was a lot of worry as to how it was going to be done. But once they saw my portrayal, it was a huge relief.”
