James Gunn Teases He's Working On Superman Sequel

ree

It looks like James Gunn has confirmed that a “Superman” sequel is in the works, only weeks after the film becomes first DC pic in years to soar past $300M domestically.

Superman is now playing in United States theaters. Written and directed by Gunn, the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures movie stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Gunn has previously indicated that there will be a sequel to Superman; however, he’s also stated that the follow-up will be “a little different than what one might expect.” There have been no further details regarding what this might mean; however, Gunn has said that it won’t be another Batman vs. Superman and it won’t be a World’s Finest film featuring Batman.

What did James Gunn say about Superman 2?

On Threads, Gunn was asked by a fan if he now had time to relax, given that Superman is out and the press tour for the DCU movie is over.

Gunn responded, “Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!!”

When asked by another fan when he was going to tease the sequel for Superman, Gunn said, “I JUST DID!”

There’s been no official word about when Superman 2 might be happening or how it will play into the rest of the DCU. The film does not have a release date at this time.

Prior to teasing Superman 2, Gunn wrote a post discussing how to deal with online toxicity that certain fandoms espouse. It reads, “If you see something toxic online, my advice would be, don’t interact with it. Attention only fans the flames of online toxicity. It’s one of the reasons I’m primarily on this platform. It isn’t because there are fewer toxic people here (although there seemingly are), it’s because it started as an online culture more willing to let the toxic personality in the back of the room shout himself hoarse and go away. When you shout back, you’re making that voice relevant.

“You’re giving it a sounding board. You are the midwife helping to birth that toxic voice into the world. You’re helping to make a few thousand angry voices seem like millions. And, to be clear, when I’m talking about toxicity, I’m talking primarily about rage or cruelty. I’m not talking about not liking something or having reasonable arguments about things we like and don’t. Anyway, forgive the PSA, but it’s on my mind.”
