The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress got the ick while working with the producer on the WB series What I Like About You, Garth told host Dax Shepard during Monday's episode of the Armchair Expert podcast. Garth starred alongside Amanda Bynes on the TV comedy, which Schneider co-created with Will Calhoun.

"I got called in by Will Calhoun, who was one of the head executives of Friends, and he was doing a new show with Amanda Bynes," Garth told Shepard and his cohost Monica Padman. "[Schneider] was also executive producing it. He was kind of the Amanda side of it; she had worked with him a lot on The Amanda show and all the things. So, he had hooked his wagon onto her."

Garth appeared on all four seasons of What I Like About You, playing the older sister of Bynes' protagonist Holly from 2002 to 2006.

Shepard then asked Garth if she had gotten "bad vibes" from Schneider, who has been the subject of allegations of abuse, sexism, racism, and inappropriate dynamics from former crew members and underage stars while they were on the set of his shows. Schneider — who is behind such hits as All That, The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh, iCarly, Victorious, and Zoey 101 — issued a public apology in 2024 after the release of Investigation Discovery's four-part docuseries, Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.

The first episode of Quiet on Set alleges that Schneider was pushed out of the writers' room for What I Like About You following conflict with Calhoun. The episode also provided the following text: "Dan Schneider denies he was pushed out of the writers' room and claims he needed to focus his energy on another show he was creating at the time."

Responding to Shepard, Garth admitted she had gotten bad vibes from Schneider, adding that it was "to the point where I said to Will, like, 'I would rather just communicate solely with you. I trust you. I think that you have my best interests in mind, and I don't feel that way with your partner. So I'd rather just be with you.' And he was like, 'No problem.'"

Garth previously refused to talk about her experience with Schneider. After the ID docuseries' release, she told The Hollywood Reporter: "I don't want to talk about Dan Schneider ever again in my life." THR reported at the time that Garth had no elaboration on this point. She said of Bynes, however: "I just love her, and I would love to see her at any point."

When Padman asked Garth whether she had witnessed Bynes being "destroyed" by Schneider, Garth replied, "Not specifically him. There were a lot of problems in the ecosystem of her."

Speaking of her former costar, Garth praised Bynes, who stepped away from acting in 2012 because of her struggles with body image. Bynes has sought treatment in the years since, with the paparazzi having a history of critiquing her appearance. In 2019, she graduated from Los Angeles' Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. The former actress also featured multiple pieces of her original artwork during a pop-up event in December 2024 before joining OnlyFans in April 2025.

She's recently pivoted to making music, releasing a new rap and EDM single called "Girlfriend" on Friday.

"When we did the pilot, I had just turned 30, and she had just turned 16," she said. "I didn't know how to be around a teenage girl. She taught me so much."
