Joy Behar is reflecting on her nearly three decades on The View.
And in that time, she has had many cohosts, some of which she did not get along with. This comes as no surprise to The View watchers, as she famously clashed with former cohost Meghan McCain. Luckily, Behar is a fan of the current lineup of panelists.
“This group now is very good,” she told Vulture in an interview published Friday. “They all have a sense of humor. Nobody’s mean over there. Over the years, there’s been a couple of little mean girls.”
While she didn’t name any names, Behar and McCain got into a heated spat on air in January 2021, during which Behar told McCain she “did not miss” her while the conservative commentator was away on maternity leave. McCain said she had a “panic attack” and began lactating after the exchange, which she said pushed her to exit the show later that year.
“I had postpartum anxiety. When I was back, I was really nervous. It was like starting TV all over again. I felt unsteady. I was trying to make a joke, ‘You missed me so much.’ If you watch the clip, her reaction is very sharp,” McCain told Variety in October 2021.
When asked about her rift with McCain, Behar said the two cohosts weren’t close, but they were cordial.
“I thought, ‘Well, good for you if that’s the worst thing anybody said to you,’” she told Vulture about the on-air fight. “I wouldn’t say we were having dinner every night, but we got along fine.”

Entertainment Weekly reached out to representatives for McCain for comment.
As The View has entered its 30th season, Behar has also hit her own milestone with the show. Having hosted 28 of the talk show’s seasons up to this point, she has become the longest-running female host of an American talk show.
“All I can say is that I was here when the show was in black-and-white,” Behar, 84, joked.
But season 30 has also come with some hiccups, as Behar had to miss several episodes of The View after suffering a major injury. She is expected to return to the show next week, with cohost Whoopi Goldberg delivering an update on Behar’s behalf on Tuesday.
“She says, ‘Thanks to everyone who inquired about my recovery. If I was still 21, I’d have bounced back the next day,’” Goldberg said. “‘But, since I’m an old bat, recuperating takes a bit longer. I plan to be back next week to fill everyone in on all the gory details.’”
The View airs weekdays on ABC.
