As Justin Baldoni closes the painful two-year chapter on his legal saga with Blake Lively, he’s now opening up about “healing.”

The It Ends With Us actor-director and his wife Emily released a video message Wednesday thanking fans for their support during a “painful” time punctuated with “a lot of trauma.”

“We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it’s not because we haven’t had anything to say,” began Baldoni, sitting beside Emily outside. “Because lord knows we have, but it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this, we wanted to speak, something was telling us not to. It just didn’t feel like the right time.”

But after talking and praying about it, “this feels like the moment,” said Emily. “There’s so much to say.” But as her husband quickly added, “We’re not gonna say it all.”

Emily then detailed the “gratitude” she and her husband have for so many people that got them through the situation, which neither of them specified is related to Lively’s lawsuit accusing Baldoni of sexual assault and creating a hostile work environment on the set of It Ends With Us.

All the same, she continued, “It doesn’t negate the injustice and the pain that we have also felt in the last few years. We’ve had to wrestle with so many things and try to understand so many things, like how could something like this even happen? Let alone disguised as a fight for women… reality is that there’s been a lot of trauma for us to move through as a family.”

Baldoni, who reached a settlement with Lively on May 4, struggled to find the right words as he said, “There have been so many painful things that have been spoken into existence over the last couple of years, that created so much noise. And we didn’t want to add to the noise. So we just wanted to let the justice system run its course.”

Looking ahead, the Baldonis said they and their two children are focused on healing.

“If you’ve ever been through something traumatic, you know that healing isn’t linear,” he revealed. “It looks different every day. We have had to rethink for ourselves what is real and what matters. It’s this. It’s our family, it’s our friends, it’s our community, who have been there for us, it’s our faith. I think we’re closer, more devoted, and steadfast in our faith than we’ve ever been.”

Speaking to fans, Baldoni thanked everyone who had “discernment” as the legal situation played out in the media. “You used your intuition and you trusted that… thank you doesn’t feel like enough.”

As they wrapped up the five-minute video, Emily hinted it would not be the last time they spoke out.

“The time will come,” she noted, “but for now, we are going to focus on continuing the healing and hanging out with our kiddos and enjoying life.”
