Kim Kardashian Putting Lawyer Dreams On Pause, No Plans To Take The Bar Exam This Year

Kim Kardashian is putting her plans to take the California bar exam on hold for now.

Kim Kardashian will not take the California bar exam in 2026, postponing her next attempt until at least 2027 after failing the test last year. The reality star and business mogul had previously vowed to retake the exam promptly, but sources say she skipped both early and mid-year sittings this year. The move marks a shift in her public legal ambitions, which began in 2018 alongside her advocacy for prison reform.

Sources told TMZ that Kim Kardashian did not sit for any California bar exam sessions in 2026 and will delay her next attempt until at least 2027. The decision comes less than a year after she failed the exam, which she publicly acknowledged in November 2025. She has said she still intends to pursue her legal dream despite the setback.

"Falling short isn’t failure – it’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam, and that only motivates me even more."

A longer road to the courtroom

Kardashian has pursued an unconventional legal education through California’s Law Office Study Program, which allows apprenticeships in lieu of law school. She began her apprenticeship in 2018, taking six years to complete due to COVID-19 disruptions and her busy work schedule. She passed the First-Year Law Student’s Examination, or 'baby bar,' on her fourth attempt, a milestone documented on her Hulu reality show.

Balancing law, business, and fame

While her legal ambitions are on hold, Kardashian remains active in other ventures, including running her multibillion-dollar SKIMS shapewear brand, filming her reality series, and making high-profile appearances such as the Met Gala. She has also taken on acting roles. This balancing act highlights the tension between her entertainment career and the demands of preparing for the bar exam.

From 'baby bar' to bar exam

Kardashian’s interest in law was sparked by her advocacy for prison reform, which she described in a 2019 Vogue interview as the catalyst for her career change. She has said she would be happy to work as an attorney full-time, even joking with her mother about retiring from reality TV for law. Her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., was a prominent attorney, and she has expressed belief that he would be proud of her legal pursuits despite his own advice against practicing law.
