Kirsten Dunst Is Not Interested In A ‘Bring It On’ Sequel: “Leave Good Things Where They Are”

If reboot fever is running through Hollywood, Kirsten Dunst's temperature is just fine.

Amid the cheerleading movie celebrating its 25th anniversary since its release, Dunst was asked if a follow-up film could be in the works and if it was something that she would be interested in.

“No,” Dunst told Entertainment Tonight during a screening of Roofman, the Derek Cianfrance-directed crime comedy-drama film in which she stars opposite Channing Tatum. “I’m like, leave good things where they are.”

When asked if she would be interested in being attached as a producer, she added, “I don’t need to put on a cheerleading outfit. I don’t even know what I would do, be a coach or something? Let’s leave it as it is.”

Bring It On is a teen comedy directed by Peyton Reed, which was released in 2000. The film stars Dunst as Torrance Shipman, a high school cheerleader who becomes captain of her squad as they prepare for a national competition. The film also starred Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford, and Gabrielle Union.

Bring It On was a success at the box office followed by six direct-to-video sequels like Bring It On Again (2004), Brint It On: All Or Nothing (2006), Bring It On: In It to Win It (2007), Bring It On: Fight to the Finish (2009), Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack (2017) and Bring It On: Cheer or Die (2022). None of the sequels included any of the original cast members.

Dunst’s take on a Bring It On sequel was a little different than when she was interviewed by ET in 2024. While promoting Civil War, she was asked if she would be interested in a follow-up to the teen film, to which she said, “I mean, it depends. Everyone’s bringing back their stuff, right?” adding that she would do it “as long as it’s not embarrassing.”
