Lady Gaga opened up about how it’s been “hard” dealing with her Tr*mp-loving, conservative father, Joe Germanotta’s, views in a new interview with Rolling Stone.

“I just try to focus on my relationship with my dad outside of what we don’t agree about,” the “Abracadabra” singer told the outlet. “As everyone knows, that is hard. We’re a family, just like all families.”

Of course, the father and daughter’s political perspectives couldn’t be more different.

While Gaga stumped for Kamala Harris on her last day of campaigning in the 2024 election, her father made appearances on Fox and Friends and rallied hard for the Flaming Hot Cheeto in Charge.

That said, Germanotta describes himself as an “open-minded Republican.”

As he explained to Fox News, “Even though I’m a Republican and I have Republican conservative attitudes, that doesn’t mean I don’t support the LGBTQ+ community, or drag as a form of artistry.” (His restaurant, Joanne’s Trattoria, named after Gaga’s late aunt, even hosts weekly drag performances.)

More recently, Germanotta made headlines for going on Laura Ingraham‘s Fox News show to call Zohran Mamdani’s New York City mayoral win a “nightmare.”

“I lost sleep over it,” he told Fox News. “I couldn’t even watch the results come in. I got so nervous and upset, because I know where he’s going.”

In fact, the singer, who scored another seven Grammy noms last week for Mayhem, admitted daddy issues might have caused her some pain in the romantic department.

But that was before she met her fiancé, Michael Polansky.

“My dad was more how I was— live-fast, die-young mentality,” she said. “He’s reformed now. He’s changed a lot. So I think I was attracted to that when I was younger. But [Michael is] very different.”

And unlike other relationships — including, presumably, her past engagements to actor Taylor Kinney and talent agent Christian Carino — the singer said Polansky, a venture capitalist, got the familial seal of approval.

“I think [my dad] was always really worried about me,” Gaga added. “He doesn’t feel like he has to worry about me anymore. Which is a nice feeling, to know my dad can have some rest with that.”

In fact, it sounds like Gaga and Polansky are hoping to start their own family ASAP, and were inspired by Elton John and David Furnish’s kids, who are Gaga’s godsons.

“Their kid have turned out to be very happy,” Polansky told Rolling Stone. “Her being Lady Gaga and the art and all of it is not something that she has to compartmentalize away from her relationship with me or when she’s a mother.”
