Before cameras started to roll, it was reported that Ellen Burnstyn would be reprising her role as Chris MacNeil in the David Gordon Green-directed Exorcist remake.
According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, Linda Blair will also make an appearance in the reboot, reprising her role as Regan.
Jeff Sneider reports, “Linda Blair will reprise her role as Regan MacNeil, Above the Line has exclusively learned. Sources say that Blair was only on set for a few days, so she’s not in the film all that much, but her return to the franchise should make fans’ heads spin with excitement.”
It should be noted that a spokesperson at Blumhouse confirmed to Sneider that Blair only served as an advisor on the movie, but didn't confirm or deny if she'll appear in the film.
The first film in the trilogy is set to hit theaters on October 13, 2023, with Leslie Odom Jr. playing the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Ms. Burstyn’s character, who you remember went through a similar situation in the 1973 film.
Ann Dowd (Hereditary), Lidya Jewett (Netflix’s Nightbooks), Raphael Sbarge (“Gaslit”), Jennifer Nettles (The Righteous Gemstones), and Olivia Marcum are also set to star.
The film is being directed by David Gordon Green (Halloween trilogy) with a script co-written by Gordon Green and Peter Sattler.
I love the original Exorcist film. I just hope with DGG on board fans of the film and it's upcoming two sequels won't be disappointed like many of us were with Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.
