Lizzo Takes Album Promo Into Her Own Hands After Label Refuses To Push ‘B*tch’ Rollout

Lizzo is taking the boots-on-the-ground initiative to make sure her new album ‘B*tch‘ sells.

The pop star blamed Atlantic Records and social media algorithms for failing to promote her album, B-TCH.

“Ever since the algorithm has been showing us things out of order, baby, there’s no way to successfully promote your album where everyone knows your album is coming,” she said.

In a viral video, Lizzo asked fans to support B-TCH when it drops. “IRL, we cannot flop. My album is coming out in 23 days. Have you made your preorder yet?” she asked.

Lizzo stressed the urgency in getting the word out about her album.

“I’m posting every single day because this algorithm wants to see me in the [Khia] asylum and b*tch, I’m fighting for my life,” she said.

In another video, Lizzo is seen plastering huge promo posters on walls around town to get the word out. She also said Atlantic didn’t provide a budget for B-TCH.

“I don’t know, but I’m crashing out on my label right now because I just really like – I feel like there’s not any marketing money being put toward my ideas,” she said.

Lizzo isn’t the only artist to feel betrayed by Atlantic Records. If you recall, rapper Cardi B was forced to promote her album, Am I the Drama?, after the label refused to give her a decent marketing budget late last year.

In a video, Cardi said her new budget from Atlantic was only $50. So she had to go out on the road to sell the album herself.

Cardi B is seen in the middle of the street trying to stop traffic to hand out her CDs in Atlanta. But no one stopped!

In another video, Cardi B sold CDs and vinyl albums on a sidewalk in NYC, while Bob Marley’s song “One Love” plays in the background.

Cardi’s album, Am I The Drama? sold over 200,000 units in its first week and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart. Am I the Drama? has since been certified 3X platinum by the RIAA.

*****

I find it quite interesting that Lizzo has taken a page out of the Madonna Confessions 2 promo handbook regarding her trying to bring attention to her commercial jingle music, but had the nerve to declare Janet Jackson as the Queen of Pop.
