Actor Luke Macfarlane was a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this week. He appeared alongside Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen, his co-stars from the Apple TV+ show, Platonic. The show premiered its second season last week.

Luke Macfarlane, who starred in 2022 gay romcom Bros alongside Billy Eichner, has shared his first celebrity crush, which he’s admitted is a little controversial.

The 45-year-old actor made the admission while appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen recently with his Platonic co-stars, Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen.

During a game of ‘Pillow Talk’, Cohen asked Byrne and Macfarlane for their first celebrity crushes. Byrne said hers was Kylie Minogue while the Bros star said, “controversially, it was Mark Wahlberg.”

As Byrne and Rogen cheered Cohen said, “I don’t know what’s controversial about that,” seemingly forgetting Wahlberg’s past run-ins with the law.

While growing up in Boston as a teenager, Mark Wahlberg was charged twice with race-related hate crimes. On two occasions, a day apart, he threw rocks and shouted racial slurs at Black children. Wahlberg was given a civil rights injunction for this before the case was settled.

Years later he separately attacked two Vietnamese men in the same day, using racial slurs as he was arrested. Wahlberg was charged with attempted murder and pleaded guilty to assault. He also claimed he was intoxicated at the time and the attacks weren’t racially motivated. The actor was sentenced to two years in prison but only served 45 days of that sentence.

Between the laughter in the studio and Byrne and Rogen talking over each other it’s hard to hear what they’re saying to Macfarlane, but the Canadian actor can he heard saying what sounds like “very religious” in reference to Wahlberg. The Ted star is known to be a practising Catholic.

Macfarlane was also asked about his oddest turn on to which he replied, “I like sticky out-y ears.” When prompted by Cohen, “So, like Russell Tovey?” Macfarlane said, ‘Russell Tovey has sticky out-y ears.” Maybe there’s a crush there too…

Macfarlane is then asked to describe himself as a lover “in three words.” Cringing at the questions, Macfarlane struggles, eventually offering, “Listen, touch, kiss.”

Platonic is streaming on Apple TV+ now.
