It’s difficult to imagine Madonna—a legend, and the epitome of confidence—being jealous of anyone. But, in a rare confession ahead of the July 3 release of Confessions II, the icon shared one fellow pop diva she was “a little bit jealous” of.

The "Like a Prayer" singer discussed a wide array of topics — including her envy of Kylie Minogue — during a new interview with Graham Norton at Koko, a renowned concert venue in London.
Madonna memorably wore a T-shirt with Minogue's name written on it in rhinestones at the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards in Stockholm, Sweden. Norton asked the singer how that outfit came about.
"I was in my Western mode, rhinestoning everything, and I was trying to think of singers that I'm slightly in love with," Madonna recalled. "And so naturally I thought of Kylie and had a T-shirt made of her."

Minogue, who was present for a portion of the interview, recalled her original response to witnessing Madonna's shirt in 2000. "[There was] no warning," she said. "I don't know what I did, probably just stopped shy of fainting. It was amazing"
Madonna then shared her honest feelings about the "Can't Get You Out of My Head" musician.
"I was actually a little bit jealous of you," she told Minogue.
"Why?" Norton asked.
"'Cause she was so cute," the "Material Girl" singer responded, suggesting that her then-husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie, contributed to her feeling of unease. "I think my ex-husband at the time had a crush on her. I was like, 'I'll never be as beautiful as Kylie!'"
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Ritchie for comment.
Norton also took the opportunity to ask if Minogue will appear as a guest on Madonna's next album, which is scheduled to be released on July 3.
"There have been rumors that Kylie is on Confessions II. Is this you confirming that rumor?" he asked.
The two singers stared at each other silently while smirking, refusing to confirm or deny the rumor.
"Why do you have to know everything? You're very nosy," Madonna eventually responded.

Norton then changed the subject and noted that the two musicians performed together during Madonna's Celebration Tour in 2024, where they sang Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" and Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head." (Minogue also flipped the script and wore a T-shirt with "Madonna" rhinestoned on it.)
"What a moment. I absolutely loved that," Minogue recalled.
Later, Minogue presented her treasured vinyl copy of Madonna's self-titled 1983 debut album. "How it got into the Minogue household, I don't know," she said. "Did we have enough pocket money to get it? Did my parents get it? But my sister and I hammered that album. Love was born, and it was everlasting."
Confessions II releases on July 3.
