‘Michael’ Sets Streaming Release Date After Billion-Dollar Box Office Run

The King of Pop is headed to streaming.

Lionsgate‘s highest-grossing movie of all time, the $1 billion-plus Michael Jackson biopic Michael, will stream on Starz beginning August 10, the company said Monday.
Michael arrives to streaming/linear following a lengthy 108-day theatrical window after opening April 24 to $97.2 million domestic and $217M worldwide, the best ever for a musical biopic.
The biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua, written by John Logan, produced by Graham King and starring the King of Pop’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, will stream on all Starz apps and Starz streaming and on-demand platforms. The Starz channel will be the home to the blockbuster’s TV premiere that same day at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
Michael received an A- CinemaScore and was 97% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It became the third movie this year to cross $1 billion, a list that includes including Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 and Universal/Illumination’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie. In addition, Michael is the highest-grossing biopic (beating Oppenheimer) and musical biopic (beating King’s multi-Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody at $911M worldwide) of all time at the global box office.
Michael joins other Liosngate pics on Starz including The Housemaid and Russell Crowe’s Beast.
