Miley Cyrus’ new album has suffered a shocking fall from the top spot of the American charts.
After debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last week, the 33-year-old’s latest LP, Bass Persuades, tumbled 156 spots to land at No. 157 on the current chart.
The fall is one of the biggest for a No. 1-debuting album in history, surpassed by that of one other act: Bon Jovi, whose 2018 album This House is Not For Sale plummeted from No. 1 to No. 169 in its second week.
Bass Persuades, Cyrus’ first chart-topping album since 2013’s Bangerz, debuted at No. 1 with around 61,000 total album units (combining physical sales and streaming-equivalent units), marking an uptick from the 44,000 total album units posted by Cyrus’ previous album, 2025’s Something Beautiful, which opened at No. 4.
Something Beautiful slipped to No. 102 in its second week and disappeared off the chart entirely after its third frame.
Though Bass Persuades will likely meet the same fate, the album generated a successful lead single, “Bass Persuades,” which out-charted every song on Something Beautiful when it debuted at No. 35 thanks to its viral music video. The song marked Cyrus’ first solo top 40 hit since 2023’s “Used to Be Young” hit No. 8 (her Beyoncé collaboration “II Most Wanted” reached No. 6 in 2024).
Both Something Beautiful and Bass Persuades followed the major success of Cyrus’ 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation, which debuted at No. 3 and launched one of the biggest songs of the icon’s career, “Flowers.”
Hailed as a standout post-breakup song, “Flowers” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified seven times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for moving at least 7 million unites.
The song also won Cyrus her first-ever Grammys, for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. “II Most Wanted” later scored Cyrus her third one year later, this time for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
In other recent album chart news, Lizzo’s latest album Bitch debuted in June to shockingly low sales three years after the artist’s backup dancer controversy.
After its June 5 release, the album failed to chart at all, moving only 2,649 units in its first week of release — a number that fell to 650 during its second week.
