Mo’Nique Slams Tyler Perry For Destroying Her Career + Claims ‘You Cost My Family Millions’ & Demands Public Apology

Mo’Nique is doubling down on her long-running feud with Tyler Perry, calling him out for what she says was a career-damaging falsehood.

The beef between the two stars dates all the way back to 2009 when the “Precious” actress refused to fly out to France for a non-contractually obligated appearance to promote the aforementioned film at that year’s Cannes Film Festival. In light of her refusal, Perry—who was one of the executive producers of the film alongside Oprah Winfrey—labeled her as “difficult to work with” and essentially blackballed her from the industry.

In the years that followed, Mo’Nique saw a complete slowdown in jobs and subsequently called outs Perry for the part he played in her career downfall. In one post to social media in particular, she posted an audio conversation of Perry admitting he did wrong by her and that he would eventually apologize. However, she’s yet to receive that apology.

Now, in a new interview with Ts Madison for her “Outlaws With TS Madison” podcast, Mo’Nique is finally sharing the two things that will get her off Tyler Perry’s back: a public apology and financial restitution. Explaining that Perry messed up 12 years of her career, she made it clear she was going to keep pushing the issue until a resolve has been executed.

“Until he fixes it, I will not stop. Because that’s how the monster is created. We’re too afraid, we’re too scared, we’re too fearful that you’re gonna take something from me, so I’m just not gonna say anything,” the “Almost Christmas” star said in part.

She continued: “As long as I can help it, I’m saying: ‘Tyler Perry you will not do this to another.’ As long as I can help it because you told a lie. And you feel liek you have the God complex, so I ain’t gotta fix it. Either you’ll fix it in life or you’ll be dealt with in life.”

When Madison asked her what “fixing it” would look like, Mo’Nique referenced “Precious” director Lee Daniels who later gave her a public apology in 2022 for the fallout that they had. Noting that she would want that to take place, she also in so many words made it clear that she’d like some sort of financial payback as well.

“You publicly shamed me, so now you have to publicly fix it. Tyler Perry you cost my family millions, and millions, and millions of dollars. And it’s a beautiful thing when you tip somebody $3,000, it’s a beautiful thing when you give somebody $400,000 because their house burned down,” she explained. “Those are good deeds, however you know what you did to a Black woman named Mo’Nique. So all of that, the universe is watching and saying OK, we see what you’re trying to do but you can’t fool us.’”

When Madison asked her flat out if she wanted an apology and financial restitution, Mo’Nique plainly said: “yes, and I say that unapologetically.”
