Netflix Gets Glamorous With New Queer Series Just In Time For Pride Month

Just in time for Pride, Netflix has announced a new queer series titled Glamorous will debut on the streamer June 22.

The soapy workplace drama series stars Miss Benny as Marco Mejia, a young gender nonconforming queer man whose life seems to be stuck in a rut. Well, that is until he meets esteemed beauty mogul — and one of his biggest idols — Madolyn Addison (Kim Cattrall), while working his day job behind the makeup counter. Looking to shake up her prestigious business, Madolyn hires Marco and gives him a seat at the table. This new job is his first chance to figure out what they want out of life, who they actually are and what it really means for him to be queer.

Rounding out the cast are Jade Peyton (iZombie) as Madolyn’s assistant Venetia, Michael Hsu Rosen (Looking) and Ayesha Harris (Daisy Jones & The Six) as two graphic designers at the makeup company, and Graham Parkhurst (Supergirl) as an acquaintance of Marco’s named Parker, who is said to symbolize “unobtainable gay cis-male perfection.”

And let's not forget Zane Phillips (Fire Island) as Madolyn's son Chad, who also happens to be the Director Of Sales for her makeup empire. Speaking of Fire Island, Zane's co-stars Joel Kim Booster and Matt Rogers are set to make an appearance in an upcoming episode.

And we can't have a queer series without a few drag queens in the mix - such as Monét X Change, Canada’s Drag Race season one winner Priyanka, and Brooklyn drag legends Charlene Incarnate, Chiquitita, and Serena Tea.

Glamorous was created and executive produced by Jordon Nardino (Star Trek:Discovery, Smash), is executive produced by Damon Wayans Jr. and Kameron Tarlow of Two Shakes Entertainment and produced by CBS Television Studios for Netflix.

Based on the cast alone I'm pretty intrigued by this series. There's been a lot of queer entertainment coming out as of late, but it's come across a bit too preachy for my taste.

Glamorous feels more up my alley, incorporating three things I love - Sex and the City, Ugly Betty and The Devil Wears Prada all in one.
