Bloodydisgusting is reporting that Neve Campbell has officially signed on the dotted line to reprise her role as the iconic Sidney Prescott in Scream 5.

She will reunite with previously announced legacy co-stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who have survived four films with Campbell as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, respectively.

New cast members will include Jack Quaid (The Boys), Melissa Barrera (In The Heights), Jenna Ortega (You), Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Mason Gooding (Let It Snow), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Love”) and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood).

Deadline is also reporting that Marley Shelton will be reprising her role as Deputy Judy Hicks. She last appeared in Scream 4.

I just wish Hayden Pannetierre was coming back as Kirby. I loved her character in Scream 4.

The fifth installment, which is set to be a relaunch of the long-running franchise, is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the film making group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock).

Here’s what Radio Silence said in a statement today: “We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”

Neve Campbell herself gave her blessing to the project: “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

The production will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Spyglass and Paramount Pictures will release the film worldwide on January 14, 2022.

I absolutely loved Ready Or Not, and can’t wait to see what these guys have in store not only for some of our surviving legacy characters, but for the future of this franchise.

Word on the street is that the Scream reboot is being set up as a trilogy, and that Sidney may get killed off in the opening sequence, a la Drew Barrymore’s character in the original film.

This is all alleged, BTW, but like I said before whatever these guys have planned for the upcoming Scream film I’m excited to check it out once it’s done.
