Nicole Scherzinger is under fire on social media right now for posting support for Russell Brand‘s “Make Jesus First Again” hat following Donald Trump‘s election win.
Russell, an outspoken supporter of Trump, celebrated the president’s second win by smiling wide while showing off the hat.
“God Bless America,” Russell captioned the post.
Nicole is currently starring on Broadway in the revival of Sunset Boulevard and is considered to be having a career resurgence thanks to her incredible performance in the show. The majority of Broadway fans and people who work in the theater community are liberal, so her support for Russell‘s post is making many people upset.
“Where do I get this hat!!!?🙏🏽❤️,” Nicole commented on the post.
Many people replied to her comment to voice their distaste. One person said, “Nicole, sweetie, no…” Another said, “Are you serious, Nicole? Well done on sh*tting on 90% of your fanbase you predator enabler.”
Nicole has been considered the frontrunner for the Tony Award for Best Actress, but it’s already being suggested that this comment could ruin her chances. Time Out New York theater critic Adam Feldman shared the post and noted, “Well the Best Actress Tony race just got a little less competitive.”
UPDATE: It appears Nicole‘s comment was deleted at around 6pm ET on Thursday (November 7), about 24 hours after she initially posted it.
If she is in fact coming out as a Trump supporter, she better kiss her first ever Tony goodbye. She's working in a medium dominated by queer people and liberal-minded people, and for her to post that comment is just beyond tone-deaf.
I'm concerned for the future of Sunset Blvd, which not only just started it's run on Broadway, but was getting rave reviews.
Now I'm concerned for the future of the show. I have a friend who said on their social media that maybe it's time to bring Glenn Close back to Sunset Blvd.
