Mama Bear is written, directed and edited by Curry Barker, and the cast includes Jon Lee Richardson as Floyd, Katie Sarife as Lacey, Ericka Kreuz as Ms. Wilson, and Joshua Snyder as Floyd’s Doppelgänger. The short reunites Barker with Obsession production designer Vivian Gray.
Mama Bear feels like it’s plucked right out of the Obsession universe, with somebody somewhere cracking open a One Wish Willow some time before the events of the short. It’s not a horror short about obsession, however, but rather one that plunges a man into a nightmare that begins with a chilling phone call and ends with the reveal that he’s not alone in his own house.
He’s got a Doppelgänger, and that Doppelgänger has just done something terrible…
Obsession may have made Curry Barker a highly in-demand filmmaker, but it was his viral YouTube horror shorts like The Chair that paved the way for his breakout hit. Milk & Serial was Barker’s second horror project, released on the comedy channel That’s a Bad Idea.
Mama Bear returns Barker to his short film roots this Halloween. Watch it below.
