Orville Peck Says He’s Going ‘Back to Music’ After Wrapping Street Fighter Movie

Now that he's wrapped his role as Vega in the upcoming live-action reboot of Street Fighter, Orville Peck is ready to get back to music.

The country singer is set to play the villain in the film, which is based on the popular video game series. Vega is one of the highest-ranking minions of Street Fighter‘s main antagonist, M Bison.

The country singer was speculated to have been cast in the role in June when he was starring in Cabaret on Broadway. He was confirmed in the role by Deadline last month.

Posting on Instagram on Wednesday (8 October) the “Midnight Ride” singer shared a bunch of images from the set including a shirtless image of himself in a blond wig with a body tattoo matching Vega’s. Other’s showed him practising his fighting again, as well as some of the rest of the cast.

“My two months in Australia making the @streetfightermovie have come to an end,” he wrote in the caption. “This experience brought me so many unforgettable memories, challenges and above all, a cast & crew that I love to death.

He continued, “The amount of hard work, commitment, laughter and tears that went into this film will probably only ever fully be known to us – but I can’t wait for the world to see the magic and integrity we set out to create on set every day.”

Peck brought the caption to a close saying, “Time for this spotted horse to get back to my music and hanging with my dog but until October 2026 – mama, that’s a hadouken.”

As well as confirming the “Dead of Night” singer has finished his scenes for Street Fighter, the post hinted at new music. Peck’s last solo album was 2024’s duet-filled Stampede, which featured “Midnight Ride,” a collaboration with Kylie Minogue and Diplo.

Street Fighter is directed by Kitao Sakurai and is aiming to be released on 16 October 2026. Also in the cast are Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, and Callina Liang. Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson also star. Hirooki Goto, Rayna Vallandingham, Olivier Richters, Mel Jarnson, and Eric André will also feature. Vidyut Jammwal, David Dastmalchian, and Andrew Schulz round out the cast.

As reported by Deadline, a synopsis for Street Fighter reads, “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Koji) and Ken Masters (Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

Why does Orville Peck wear a mask?

Peck is well known for constantly wearing a mask as part of his public persona.

In a New York Times profile in March, Peck said: “The mask is part of my expression personally as an artist and a very big personal part of me.”

Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in April he shared it was also partly inspired the cowboy culture references he absorbed while growing up in South Africa. “In my mind, if you were going to be a cowboy [like The Lone Ranger] you had to have this air of mystery and conceal a little bit.”

It was also attached to growing up gay with the mask giving Peck “the safety and confidence to be more myself than I had ever been.”
