Perez Hilton Informed Pals ‘He Was No Longer Gay’ Before Shocking TikTok Livestream, Hospitalization

Perez Hilton had been telling friends he was no longer gay in the months leading up to his hospitalization, according to sources who say the celebrity blogger had embraced a radically different view of his sexuality.

“He was telling people he considered himself ‘ex-gay,'” one insider told Rob Shuter for his Naughty But Nice Substack on Tuesday, August 11. “He was very serious about it. This wasn’t a joke or something he said once. He was telling people that he was no longer gay.”

The 49-year-old, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., was rushed to the hospital on August 4 after seemingly committing acts of self-harm in a disturbing TikTok livestream. His condition “remains serious but stable,” his family said in an August 8 statement posted on his website, adding that his “treatment and recovery will be a long process.”

In the months leading up to the incident, the celebrity blogger had spoken about his religion more often, even revealing in a June video posted on YouTube that God had told him to relocate from Las Vegas to his hometown of Miami.

Sources told Shuter the formerly proud LGBTQ+ voice — who controversially “outed” multiple celebrities in his heyday — had become involved with conservative Christian communities.

“He had completely changed the way he talked about himself,” another source told Shuter. “He was talking about his sexuality differently and saying that he had found a new path through his faith.”

Insiders told Shuter that Hilton’s shift in thought is reminiscent of far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, who re-embraced his Catholic faith in 2021 and declared himself an “ex-gay” man, per The Independent.

“People around Perez were making that comparison privately,” a source says. “They saw someone moving away from the identity that had defined him publicly for decades.”

As previously reported, Hilton’s mother and sister plan to seek custody of his three children, who were present in the home just moments before their father’s breakdown, amid his hospitalization.
