Queer Eye's Karamo Brown Reveals his Botched Plastic Surgery for the First Time

Karamo Brown is telling all on his plastic surgery procedures following the cancellations of both his Netflix makeover show Queer Eye and his syndicated daytime talk show this year.

The 45-year-old reality star just revealed he underwent a buccal fat removal procedure - which takes one hour and costs around $4,000 - in 2021 after packing on 70lbs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

'I was a big boy, and everyone online liked to tell me how much of a big boy I was,' Brown told People on Tuesday.

'So, I was like, "Okay, maybe if I slim out my face, I'll be cute." It turned into a year-and-a-half of pain.'

The two-time Emmy winner suffered from chronic pain and experienced trouble speaking after scar tissue buildup began blocking his salivary glands.

'There'd be times you'd see me smile, and it was tight,' Brown said.

'My cheeks would be big because they were full of saliva, full of scar tissue. I was in the worst pain.'

The Kē Wellness founder continued: 'There'd be times when I was filming my show that my mouth would get so dry and it would be so swollen.'

'I felt embarrassed that I did this to myself. I would never do it now,' Brown added.

Buccal fat removal - which permanently extracts the fat pads in the lower cheeks for a more chiseled look - became trendy in 2021 and John Legend's wife Chrissy Teigen was one of the few celebs who admitted to the procedure.

'I did that Dr. [Jason] Diamond buccal fat removal thing here,' the 40-year-old Cravings founder said on Instagram at the time.

'And since I quit drinking, I’m really seeing the results, and I like it. Yeah, I did it, what?'

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie actress Anya Taylor-Joy has suspiciously sharper cheekbones since her brunette days back in 2018.

Caught Stealing actress Zoë Kravitz is another celebrity rumored to have undergone buccal fat removal, among other cosmetic procedures over the past decade.

Jenna Ortega, Demi Moore, Margot Robbie, Megan Fox, Sophie Turner, Bella Hadid, Miley Cyrus, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Lea Michele, Amelia Gray Hamlin and Dove Cameron are also suspected of having it done.

Brown remedied his botched job by losing 70lbs off his 6ft 2in frame in 2023 - one year after the Ozempic GLP-1 agonist craze officially went global.

'The scar tissue and the saliva were still there, but because I was skinnier, it looked kind of normal,' the Houston native said.

'I stopped eating because it helped the feeling of not having so much scar tissue.'

Brown later enlisted plastic surgeon Dr. Carl Truesdale to remove the scar tissue and mend his swollen saliva glands as well as performing a lower blepharoplasty on his eyes.

'I was like, "While we under, can you get rid of my bags?"' the presenter said.

'He got rid of like 60 percent of my bags.'

Brown has been making headlines over his fractured relationship with his Queer Eye castmates Jonathan Van Ness, Antoni Porowski and Tan France ever since the 10th and final season of their Netflix show premiered January 21.

The so-called culture 'expert' - who holds a business administration degree - claims he 'felt mentally and emotionally abused for years' until his mother overheard his costars allegedly talking badly of him last summer.

The first sign of trouble in paradise on the reboot of Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy happened in 2023 when design expert Bobby Berk abruptly quit the show after eight seasons.

Fans can catch more of Brown hosting his self-titled daytime talk show through September after NBCUniversal canceled it on March 13.

The single father-of-two first found fame in 2003 competing on a heterosexual dating game show The 5th Wheel before publicly coming out as gay in 2004 while starring in MTV's The Real World: Philadelphia.
