R. Kelly Overdosed In His Prison Cell, Rushed to Hospital

R. Kelly’s attorney claims the singer suffered a serious overdose while in solitary confinement, after being given extra medication by prison staff.

According to AllHipHop, the 58-year-old singer, imprisoned in North Carolina, allegedly collapsed in his cell after receiving what his lawyer called a dangerously high dose of medication.

According to the motion, Kelly was placed in isolation on June 10. Two days later, prison staff administered more medication.

On June 13, he reportedly fainted and was rushed to Duke University Hospital, where doctors determined the dosage could have killed him. He remained under observation for two days before officials returned him to prison.

Attorney Beau Brindley believes the overdose was intentional. He claims it occurred just two days after filing a separate motion accusing prison officials of endangering Kelly’s life.

“This was no mistake,” Brindley said. “It was a dose that jeopardized his life and nearly ended it.”

This marks the third request for temporary release. Kelly’s lawyers argue he faces persistent threats behind bars.

They referenced a sworn affidavit from inmate Mikeal Glenn Stine, who alleged that prison staff and white supremacist groups planned to murder Kelly to cover up misconduct during his prosecution.

After Stine’s statement surfaced, Kelly was moved to solitary confinement. His attorneys describe the conditions as inhumane. He reportedly sleeps in unsanitary quarters, surrounded by insects, and lacks phone and commissary access.

Fearing poisoning, he has allegedly refused food for days. Doctors also found blood clots in both legs and lungs and recommended surgery.

Brindley claims that before surgery could be performed, armed guards removed Kelly from the hospital against medical advice. He was returned to solitary confinement without treatment.

“This is not a theory,” Brindley said. “Hospital records will confirm he was denied urgent care.”

Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence for sex trafficking and racketeering. His attorneys insist the facility can no longer ensure his safety.

They urge the court to grant an emergency furlough, warning that keeping him behind bars could have fatal consequences.
