In news that is surprising to no-one, the flagship franchise of RuPaul’s Drag Race has offered an update on the future of the globally renowned battle between glamazons: casting for season 19 is now open.
Announced today (2 October) via a video posted to Drag Race production company World of Wonder’s social media accounts featuring Mama Ru herself, the next instalment is getting ready to snatch wigs, with applicants able to submit applications until 14 November.
“If you have the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent it takes to become America’s Next Drag Superstar, we want to hear from you!” the post reads, with a link to the application portal.
And with some spooky white contacts, Mama Ru says in the video: “Casting for season 19 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is now open.”
“This could be the beginning of the rest of your life,” she adds over clips of past RuPaul’s Drag Race champions, including season 17’s Onya Nurve, season 16’s Nymphia Wind, season 15’s Sasha Colby and season 13’s Symone.
A couple of things: RuPaul’s Drag Race has not officially been renewed for season 19 yet, but seasons of the show often film before an official green light, so it’s a safe bet to assume that the show’s current network (MTV) will do so in due course.
Secondly, we know what you’re thinking, and you’re right – season 18 of RuPaul’s Drag Race has not even yet begun airing, let alone concluded. And to that, we say that the devil works hard, but RuPaul works harder.
And, on the more Nancy Drew-esque side of things, some drag detectives have already pulled together a cast list for All Stars 11…
Drag Race UK recently opened casting for its eighth season, too, despite season seven being only one episode in.
