The latest I Know What You Did Last Summer brought back some of the franchise's most iconic stars, but one fan-favorite had to wait until the very end to make her grand return.

A surprise mid-credits scene from the recently released film, a sequel to 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, sees Brandy Norwood finally reprise her role as Karla Wilson, Julie James' (Jennifer Love Hewitt) college roommate. If you didn't make it past the early credits or just want to relive the tantalizing scene, EW has an exclusive look ahead of the film's arrival on home entertainment today.

The bonus sequence, above, opens with Karla watching a news broadcast detailing the latest wave of Fisherman killings that took place over the course of the film. When Julie's photo flashes onscreen, a man, presumably Karla's partner, appears from a kitchen area and asks, "Isn't that your college roommate?" Karla responds with shocked amusement, "Yes," adding, "People are always trying to kill that woman. I hope she's in therapy."

Moments later, there's a knock at the door — and Julie is standing on the other side.

"Julie! Oh my God, it's been years!" Karla says. "I was watching the news, and you can't catch a damn break!" That's when Julie reveals, "I need your help."

We then see that she's holding a chilling photo of Karla, with her face ominously crossed out, and a note that reads, "It isn't over." Karla responds coolly, "Who do we have to f--- up this time?"

While a sequel has not been announced yet, the exchange has left audiences wondering what comes next for the old friends.

In the meantime, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson previously told Entertainment Weekly that it was important for her to show in this film that Karla is not only alive but also thriving.

"Her house has to be gorgeous. Her man has to be gorgeous. Her life has to be perfect," Robinson said. "Karla is living. Capital 'L' living. And I needed her to have the best life ever. That was so important to me."

Still, the director wanted to avoid including the cameo just for nostalgia's sake, "Once (Hewitt) and I nailed down what her arc was going to be and what Julie was going to be in the movie, then I was able to think about how do we bring Karla into this in a way that feels purposeful and fun and not just like shoved in there to be there."

Robinson says when she first called Brandy about returning to the franchise, the star was immediately enthused: "She was so excited. She was like, 'Yes, of course, I wanna come back. I love I Know What You Did Last Summer.'"

Ending the film on that note was "a big deal," adds the filmmaker. "I wanted to set up an empowering return for Karla and Julie. That was always the goal."

I Know What You Did Last Summer is now available on digital before arriving on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on Oct. 7. Watch Brandy's return in the end credits scene above.
