'Sleepaway Camp' Star Jonathan Tiersten Dead at 60

We are sad to learn this morning that Jonathan Tiersten, best known to horror fans for his role in the original Sleepaway Camp, has passed away at the age of 60 years old.

Tiersten died last week, his brother William confirmed to The U.S. Sun, adding that the medical examiner is investigating his death.
A cause of death has not been determined.
William said his brother died at his home in New Jersey, but claimed not to know where in the state his relative lived.
Tiersten was known for his role as the hot-tempered Ricky Thomas in the 1983 horror film Sleepaway Camp.
The film focuses on a series of killings that occurred at a summer camp for teenagers.

Tiersten did not immediately return for the film’s 1988 sequel, but reprised his role as Ricky Thomas in the 2008 sequel, Return to Sleepaway Camp.
The actor also appeared in the film’s 2012 sequel, Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor.
During his career, Tiersten continued to appear in horror films, including Terror Tales, Lake of Shadows, Last American Horror Show: Volume II, and Time’s Up, among others.
In 2012, he portrayed the role of John Dosey in the horror flick The Perfect House.
The role earned him an award for best supporting actor at the Macabre Faire Film Festival.
Tiersten is survived by his son.
