“Basketball Wives” alum Tami Roman is facing backlash after publicly stating she’s not ready to welcome her daughter, Jazz Anderson’s, girlfriend to family events — including Anderson’s own graduation.

Tami first came to attention back in 1993 on The Real World: Los Angeles. She has gone on to appear on several other reality shows since then, such as Basketball Wives. She also has dozens of acting credits to her name.
Tami has two daughters, Lyric and Jazz Anderson, with her ex-husband, the former NBA player Kenny Anderson. Tami’s now married to Reggie Youngblood.
Jazz is bisexual. She and her mom, Tami, sat down this week for the new Burruss Banter podcast with Kandi Burruss and her daughter, Riley.
At one stage (the 51:31 mark), the topic of bisexuality comes up. Kandi read out a question from a viewer. The young woman wanted advice about coming out to her mom as bisexual. She said she’d told her mom, who subsequently went quiet and changed the subject.
Jazz embraces the question, but Tami seems less confident at first. Both say that both parent and child need to be ready to have such a conversation and that some parents sometimes need a little time to process the information. In other words, grant parents some grace if they don’t immediately act supportive.
Tami then goes on to say that if she wasn’t immediately supportive of her daughter, it was more to do with the fact that she didn’t like the girl Jazz was dating at the time.

Jazz responds by jokingly saying her mom never likes anyone she’s dating.
Tami disputes this, adding that she sometimes ends up acting as a therapist to both Jazz and her girlfriend when they’ve had problems. She suggests this can be a little overwhelming for her.
Jazz then goes on to say her mom didn’t allow her girlfriend to attend her graduation ceremony. According to social media postings, this happened a couple of weeks ago.
“Confirmation bias”
Burruss expresses shock that Tami didn’t allow Jazz to invite her girlfriend to the ceremony. She asks Tami if she’s been more receptive to her other daughter’s boyfriends.
Tami admits she was.
“There’s something called confirmation bias,” Tami explains. “And when people think like you, think or appear to be how you are, you’re more drawn to those types of people. So, my daughter is a heterosexual female.”
She continues, “Confirmation bias allows me to accept whatever situation she’s presenting, versus not really understanding this moment. And so I got to take a step back and figure out how it works for me and how I can be comfortable in that moment because there’s something called mental health that we have to be concerned about, and I got to be concerned about mine.”
“Even though I’m trying to walk with her and love her, I still got to do what’s right for me as well.”
“Okay,” counters Burruss. “But you’re not graduating. She is.”
“I’m not going to make myself feel uncomfortable in any phase of my life,” Tami continues. “I am 55 years old. I’m not doing it. And what I say about this moment is this girl [i.e. the girlfriend] just f*cking got here.”

Jazz confirms that it was a new-ish relationship of some six months.
“I’ve been here your entire life,” continues Tami. “So, I don’t know if sharing this moment and me trying to adapt and make you comfortable in a situation I’m uncomfortable in and acclimate to what you want to happen and she not sharing this moment with her and she not going to be here for a month. I don’t know. So, I’m not going to do it to myself. So, she cannot come, and I stand 10 toes down.”

The internet reacts
Tami goes on to say that she put effort into getting to know a previous girlfriend of Jazz’s, but she’s no longer on the scene. Her argument about the graduation ceremony is that she didn’t want to share a significant moment in her daughter’s life with someone who may not be around very long.
However, Tami’s comments prompted some backlash online. Despite some praising the honest conversation between the four women, some felt the reality TV veteran was wrong on this occasion.
“Tammy’s daughter is grown,” said one person on YouTube. “You can’t dictate who can come and not come to her graduation. The joyous occasion is not about you and your comfortability but your daughter’s achievement.”
On the queer-oriented Gaye Instagram account, many expressed disappointment at Tami’s comments.
“She’s wrong. It doesn’t matter whether you are uncomfortable or not. It’s not about you. It’s about your daughter. You denying your daughter the chance to have an important person in her life (whether they will be around later on or not) is making HER big day about YOU,” said one.
“Let me just say I lost all respect for Tami with this one…” said another.
TS Madison simply posted a crying emoji.

Madison, who is trans, has appeared on past Tami Roman projects to discuss LGBTQ+ issues and to previously offer advice to Tami on accepting her daughter’s sexuality.
I'm not sure if this was geared towards Tami, but Maddie also posted the following on social media.
This is a hard pill to swallow for some of you because yall done let white Jesus be your common denominator!
It’s so unfortunate to see……..
But to my Queer family it might be hard to cut folx off that say they “love you” but notice how easy it is for them to throw you out in the street or blatantly disrespect you with out breaking a sweat!
