The Bear Star Ayo Edebiri Calls Jennifer Lopez’s Career a ‘Scam’ as Past Insults Resurface Ahead of Their Joint ‘SNL’ Gig

Years before Edebiri, 28, won an Emmy for the uber-popular Hulu show The Bear, she appeared on the “Scam Goddess” podcast in 2020 where she claimed Jennifer Lopez’s career is “one long scam.”

A past interview of “The Bear” star where she called J.Lo a “scam” resurfaced ahead of their gig.

“She thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her,” Ayo claimed, seemingly referring to a rumor that J.Lo uses ghost singers to record her music. “I think she thinks that she’s still good even though she’s not singing for most of these songs.

Ayo, who won her first Emmy last month, went on to admit she became “fascinated” with J.Lo’s career and “read up on” theories that she did not sing all of her tracks.

“A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio,’ like, ‘J.Lo was busy,’ ” she said. “It’s like, ‘Doing what?’ Not singing, obviously!!”

Neither Edebiri nor Lopez have addressed the comments made in 2020 as of press time. Edebiri has caught some slack for comments she’s made in the past, specifically, her movie reviews on the website Letterboxd.

“I’m a comedian. Anything I say online, I think I would say to somebody’s face,” she said about her reviews in January at the Emmy Awards. “I have a Letterboxd [account] because I love movies, I love TV, I love this industry. I know how hard it is to make something. I respect everything that’s ever been made.”

SNL is most definitely going to be awkward tonight, but how much you want to bet some producer was clever to put these two together knowing what Ayo said in the past? Or are we giving SNL producers too much credit?
