Tom Cruise Says Michael B. Jordan Is “Enormously Talented” And Shares Respect For Ryan Coogler

Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood’s most coveted stars, recently gave high words of praise to Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler following the success of their Sinners film.

When Cruise, 62, spoke with PEOPLE at Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning's New York City premiere on Sunday, May 18, the action star said it was "wonderful" to spend time with Sinners actor Michael B. Jordan at Mission: Impossible's May 15 premiere in London. Jordan, 38, appeared at that red carpet event after Cruise publicly praised the younger actor's vampire period thriller on Instagram.

"Oh listen, it's wonderful to see him. Really, he's enormously talented, and what he and [Ryan] Coogler do together... he's a great actor," Cruise says of Jordan and Sinners director Ryan Coogler, who previously made Black Panther, Creed and Fruitvale Station together. "He's dedicated to his brand. I really respect him. Respect Coogler, I love that film. I love the films that they make. It's brilliant, you know, big cinema."

"I admire what they do and I love to see people do well in life. That is a thing that I work very hard to do — all I can to help people and see them do well," Cruise adds. "Filmmakers, actors — people know always my door's always open, so I'm very excited about what they're creating and it's always inspiring. It goes back and forth."

Jordan and Cruise clasped hands and embraced on Mission: Impossible's red carpet in London as they posed for photos together. "I was too young to see the first Mission Impossible in the theater, but now I get a chance to watch the final one… in IMAX!!!! Much love @tomcruise," Jordan wrote of the moment on his Instagram on Friday, May 16, along with a video showing him and Cruise chatting.

Sinners, in which Jordan played twin characters Smoke and Stack — who unexpectedly encounter a vampire after returning to their Mississippi hometown in the 1930s-set thriller — is currently the second-highest grossing movie at the domestic box office this year, behind only A Minecraft Movie.

Cruise shared a photo of himself standing outside a movie theater with his ticket for Sinners in hand on April 27 and wrote, "Congratulations Ryan, Michael, and to the entire cast and crew. Must see in a cinema and stay through the end credits!"

Cruise, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell and the rest of Mission: Impossible's cast hope to see similar success with the eighth installment in Cruise's own action franchise.

On Sunday's red carpet, Cruise reflected on his many years starring in the hit action-movie franchise — and said that if he had to do it all over again, he wouldn't change a thing.

"I did the best you can, and it's representing all the efforts of everyone involved at that particular moment," he says.

"I looked at it and I really see what it takes to make these movies and what I've learned about storytelling [in] this particular genre," Cruise adds.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits theaters May 23.
