As reported by TMZ, the artist born Tyrese Darnell Gibson, was booked on Friday morning and was released after posting a $20,000 bond. One of Tyrese's dogs allegedly killed a 5-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who belonged to one of his neighbors in Atlanta. The neighbor claimed they found their dog dead on September 18, covered in dog saliva, and that Tyrese was known to let his dogs roam free without a leash.
Earlier this week, Fulton County Police Animal Services Capt. Nicole Dwyer announced that the Fast & Furious star was wanted on an animal cruelty charge in connection with the incident. The dog, Henry, sustained punctured wounds and severe internal bleeding after being attacked. In the week leading up to Henry’s death, Tyrese’s four Cane Corso dogs were seen running loose on at least five occasions. Another neighbor called 911 to report that the dogs prevented her from getting to her car, and she later needed to be escorted by animal control officers.
"It is the negligence on his part as the homeowner and animal owner, just letting them roam free," Dwyer said. "And now they have killed an innocent animal." Tyrese agreed to surrender his dogs on September 22, but he asked for three or four more days when they first talked to him. He was told they would return with a search warrant if he did not comply. He refused to comply with the authorities, and his dogs were nowhere to be found when the search warrant was executed.
Tyrese later gave an exclusive statement to The Breakfast Club’s Loren Lorosa, clarifying that he was “not on the run” after the fatal dog attack. He faced accusations that he was evading arrest when he said on Instagram that he would be stepping back from social media to focus on his mental health, and noted that he was with his family in Los Angeles.
“Mr. Tyrese Gibson wishes to extend his deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog in this tragic incident,” Tyrese’s attorney told Lorosa. “His heart is truly broken, and he has been praying for the family constantly, hoping they may one day find it in their hearts to forgive him. Mr. Gibson was out of town when the incident occurred, but he accepts full responsibility for his dogs.”
Tyrese’s attorney said that he made “the incredibly difficult decision to rehome his two adult dogs and their three puppies in safe and loving homes” after he learned what happened.
Earlier this week, the 46-year-old released a statement regarding the matter, saying it left him feeling "shocked, devastated, and heartbroken for the family affected."
