The View host Whoopi Goldberg clapped back at President Donald Trump’s criticisms of Bad Bunny‘s Super Bowl performance, noting it certainly seems like the president was tuned into the controversial halftime show, despite his complaints.
Goldberg kicked off Monday’s (Feb. 9) broadcast of The View with praise for the Puerto Rican rapper’s record-breaking performance. “But alas not everyone was a fan,” she said as she shared the statement President Trump released on TruthSocial, slamming the performance. “You-know-who posted that it was an ‘affront to the Greatness of America and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.'”
The audience and Goldberg’s fellow View co-hosts could not hold back their laughter at the statement.
Alyssa Farah Griffin even speculated, “He definitely did not write the statement. There’s no way, prompting Sara Haines to joke the statement sounds “a little too coherent.”
Goldberg continued with her rant against the president and accused him of skipping Turning Point USA’s All-American Halftime Show, which was positioned as a conservative alternative to Bad Bunny’s performance at the NFL game. Kid Rock headlined the performance with country singers Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett.
“It’s clear though that you watched it,” Goldberg said in a moment that can be watched at the top of this page. “So, what was happening with Kid Rock? Wasn’t that your thing?”

Goldberg even took shots at the show’s ratings, pointing out the show’s 6.1 million concurrent viewers doesn’t quite measure up to early estimates predicting Bad Bunny’s halftime show may break last year’s record of 133.5 million.
“Did they get as many [viewers] no? They didn’t get that many?” she teased. “That’s the good thing about America, you could watch what you want, when you want. So you were able to watch Kid Rock, or you could watch Bad Bunny. Or, if you were smart, you’d go back and forth just to stay on top of stuff.”
Goldberg laughed as she continued laying into the president for complaining about the performance. In his statement on TruthSocial, Trump said it was a “slap in the face to our Country.”
The longtime View host addressed Trump directly as she continued, “I keep laughing because I think you don’t recognize excellence and creativity when you see it. Do you know how creative that was, what he did?”
“[Trump] said no one would understand what was being said,” she added. “You didn’t understand. A lot of people did.”
As Griffin pointed out the “unbelievable” production of the performance, Sunny Hostin chimed in to note that she felt the show’s message transcended language.
“You didn’t have to understand or speak Spanish to feel the joy and to feel the unity and the message of inclusivity that was there,” she said.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
